Monaco’s newly-wed royals celebrate in bride’s homeland

2011-07-07 13:27

Prince Albert II of Monaco and Princess Charlene were today set to host a second wedding reception in her native South Africa.

The reception is to take place at the upmarket Oyster Box Hotel in Umhlanga in Durban, where there was little indication on the streets of the royal event taking place in the evening.

The guest list includes 400 people, among them European and African royals, politicians and sport and showbiz figures.

The Monaco royals arrived in the country on Tuesday, spent about 30 minutes with President Jacob Zuma yesterday, on the sidelines of the International Olympic Committee’s annual meeting.

South African media steered away from reports of tensions between the couple, devoting more space to the details of preparations for the lavish private event.

It has been reported that the one-time Olympic swimmer had cold feet on several occasions before the religious ceremony in Monaco last Saturday, and that the couple has been quarrelling over the latest paternity case facing Albert and a marriage contract.
