2011-07-22 12:50

Tottenham Hotspur coach Harry Redknapp is looking forward to a

display of his South African opponents’ “fantastic skill” in tomorrow’s final of

the Vodacom Challenge.

Spurs face Orlando Pirates in the final of the pre-season

tournament at Ellis Park Stadium.

Said Redknapp of his opponents: “The football Pirates display is of

the highest level. I just hope the final will be a very skilful game with the

same spirit,” said the Spurs mentor at the pre-final conference today.

He said he would love for SA-born Steven Pienaar to play on his

home soil tomorrow.

Pienaar missed Spurs’ games against Kaizer Chiefs and Pirates

midweek.

Spurs’ midfielder, Jermaine Jenas, added that he too was not

surprised by the impressive level of soccer displayed so far.

Bucs coach Julio Leal said the tournament came in handy to as it

gave his players not only the exposure but confidence ahead of the new Absa

Premiership season.

“We are happy that playing against two big opponents will help

improve our side. We try to work on fitness and include tactical aspects.”

Pirates drew 1-l with Spurs on Tuesday and beat Chiefs 1-0 last

night to reach the final.

Meanwhile, Gauteng MEC for sport Lebogang Maile paid tribute to the

late Pirates No 1 fan Johannes “Mzion” Mofokeng, whom he said left a legacy and

passion.

“He was part of the achievements of South African sport. We will

always remember him as we celebrate the achievements in SA sport,” said

Maile.
