More SAA flights into Africa

2014-12-02 12:27

South African Airways has increased the number of flights on some of its key African routes.

“The strengthening of these routes comes in the wake of positive load factors and increased traffic between the countries,” acting chief executive Nico Bezuidenhout said today.

Weekly flights between Joburg and Maputo, Mozambique, were increased from 17 to 21 with effect from December 1.

Flights from Joburg and Harare, Zimbabwe, were increased from 18 to 19 a week, also with effect from December 1.

Those between Joburg and Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, would increase from six to seven a week, effective from Thursday.

Flights between Joburg and Mauritius would increase from nine to 10 a week, also from Thursday.

Bezuidenhout said gross domestic product (GDP) growth in Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of Congo exceeded World Bank growth statistics for the continent. South Africa’s trade, and demand for leisure and business travel to Mauritius, was growing at a steady pace.

“Airlift services traditionally lead GDP in all markets and also track the rate of increased leisure travel, investment and business engagement between South Africa and its continental peers,” he said.
