Motoring briefs – A sportscar for the masses

2012-06-22 12:31

Toyota fans are eagerly awaiting the local launch of the 86 next month, which pays tribute to the iconic 1983 AE86 Corolla Levin and Sprinter Trueno models.

Enthusiasts will be happy to know this new addition to the sportscar market won’t be too pricey.

The standard model starts off at R298 500, with the two higher-specified versions (a manual and a six-speed auto gearbox with paddle shift) coming in at R329 400 and R346 500.

In the looks department, this car delivers a winning Japanese sportscar aesthetic.

All models feature the newly-developed Subaru 2.0-litre, four-cylinder boxer engine producing 147kw of power and 205nm of torque.

It’s the first horizontally-opposed, naturally aspirated engine combined with Toyota’s direct-injection 4-stroke petrol system (D-4S).
