Mphela smokes peace pipe with Downs

2011-02-16 11:02

Want-away Mamelodi Sundowns striker Katlego Mphela has returned to training after a meeting with club president Patrice Motsepe.

Mphela, who has been absent without leave at Chloorkop as he tried to force his move away from the club, joined his team-mates this morning after a private meeting with Motsepe last night.

It is understood that Motsepe has undertaken to release Mphela at the end of the season to fulfil his international dream.

The meeting was facilitated by Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane, who had dropped the striker for last week’s international friendly against Kenya.

But Mosimane had made it clear that he would broker a deal between the two parties as he wanted the striker back on the field.

If he regains his positions in the Downs starting line-up, Mphela could make a return to the Bafana fold for the game against Egypt next month.

According to a Sundowns press release, Mphela has apologised to Motsepe, the club, the supporters and his team-mates.

But he would still face the music as he is scheduled to appear before the club’s disciplinary committee for his behaviour.

Mphela has vowed to work hard to regain his place in the team and to help the Brazilians challenge for the league honours.
