Mpumalanga politicians unite around Madiba

2013-12-06 13:08

Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza will make an announcement later today about places where the public can place flowers and write messages of condolence to honour deceased former president Nelson Mandela.

The leader of Mpumalanga’s government business, Candith Mashego-Dlamini, told the legislature this morning that condolence books would be distributed to all municipalities in the province.

Legislature members wrote their messages of condolence before the start of the legislature sitting.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) decided to withdraw its motion for debate today as a result of Mandela’s death.

“This is the time for us as legislature to unite. I would like to withdraw the motion until next year,” said DA provincial leader Anthony Benadie.

The ANC also decided not to have a debate on the tabling of the Mpumalanga Finance Bill.

Deputy legislature speaker David Dube said Mandela left the country with a rich legacy of peace and reconciliation.

Dube then said: “While the ANC and the alliance lives, Mandela cannot die.”
