Mthethwa ‘hijacked’ North West conference

2012-12-05 10:51

Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa reportedly “hijacked” the North West nomination conference to replace supporters of Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe with “rented” delegates.

The Star reported today that Mthethwa had ordered police to disperse anti-Zuma supporters with rubber bullets.

Provincial secretary Kabelo Mataboge, who was the target of an apparent assassination attempt last week and supports Motlanthe, told the paper “senior ANC leaders” had hijacked the conference. He said he was denied access to the conference venue after being locked in a bunker.

About 130 North West ANC members have since complained to Luthuli House.

Mthethwa’s spokesperson said Mthethwa would not “deal with internal ANC matters through media platforms”.
