Another popular face from celebville has joined the red beret brigade.

Sifiso Buthelezi, a vocalist and guitarist for soul and Afro-jazz group The Muffinz, has joined the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

The Muffinz shot to fame with their debut album Have You Heard which earned them nominations for Duo or Group of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Album of Year and Best Soul/R&B/Reggae Album in the 2013 SAMAs.

Buthelezi, who claims he was an ANC supporter, said he jumped ship and joined EFF about two weeks ago as an ordinary member.

A corporate communication and sociology graduate from the University of Johannesburg, Buthelezi said he joined Julius Malema’s party because it is the only platform he can use to implement his philosophy and what he learnt at school.

“Policy-wise, EFF offers what I always wanted. Through them I can apply what I learnt at school and help our people. I have been a supporter of the ANC during my student politics but you can’t cling to memories all the time, you need a party that can offer you what you really wanted. It is not about me but about my family and my kids and the future of this country,” he said.

Asked if his band members supported his move to join the EFF, Buthelezi said: “This has nothing to do with other members. It has to do with me. We have spoken about it and they did not have a problem with that,” he said.

EFF co-founder Floyd Shivambu said in the EFF Buthelezi had found a warm political home.

“We welcome him to the party as he is joining millions of young South Africans who are interested and agree with our policy direction,” he said.
