Murder-accused cops get bail

2010-11-17 09:01

Four border police officers who allegedly shot dead a 22-year-old motorist were each granted R3 000 bail in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court.

The four officers – Captain Rosina Mabena, Sergeant Lillian Tlhati, Sergeant Jacobeth Ngobeni and Warrant Officer Enoch Makgamatha – will appear in court again on January 26.

This will give the state enough time to obtain the outstanding post-mortem report.

The four are accused of shooting dead Nkosinathi Ntuli on July 12 while he was driving home.

He was working as a sound engineer at Soccer City during the World Cup final.

Ntuli, who resided in Doornpoort, was allegedly driving his Toyota RunX on the wrong side of the road on the corner of Boom and Cowie streets in Pretoria when he was shot dead.

Six shots were fired at him.

All but one of the police officers allegedly left the scene afterwards.

At the time, they were in an unmarked vehicle and the driver was not in police uniform.

Outside the court, a group of people wearing T-shirts with pictures of Ntuli gathered to show support for his family.
