N.E.R.D ready to rock Jozi

2011-02-12 14:34

US hip-hop band N.E.R.D will be missing one member at their performance tonight at the Standard Bank Arena.

Pharrell Williams and Sheldon Haley will perform without fellow band member Chad Hugo, who, according to frontman Pharrell, “is a family guy who spends a lot of time at home with his family”.

The band has been on tour for about three years consecutively and Sheldon admitted that “time is now a blur for them and they have a number of projects to catch up on”.

Pharrell did, however, say that he was happy to be in South Africa again.

They arrived in Johannesburg on Friday night and will be performing at the finale of the Hansa Pilsner Legends Tour, which has been running since last year.

The last time the band was in South Africa was in 2006 when they performed at the first People’s Concerts in Johannesburg.

Pharrell says: “We are keen on rocking South Africa with the same energy and passion displayed in 2006.”

Tickets were not for sale as they could only be won by entering Hansa’s competition by using their unique code found on the bottle underliner.

South African artists who will be opening the show for the band are DJ Tira, Malaika, Ntando, Zuluboy, Kwela Tebza, Future Sounds, Vusi, Dmos and Freedom.
