Nadal heads tennis rankings as compatriot Almagro makes top 10

Rafael Nadal continued to comfortably head the world tennis rankings released today by the governing body Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), while his compatriot Nicolas Almagro made the top 10 for the first time in his career.

Nadal, who yesterday beat David Ferrer 6-2, 6-4 to win his sixth title in seven years at the Barcelona Open, leads by more than 3?000 points from Novak Djokovic.

Nadal has 12 870 points, while Djokovic stands on 9 640.

Almagro, who was knocked out by Ferrer in the semi-finals in Barcelona, comes in at 10th, pushing out the only American who was in the top 10, Mardy Fish.

ATP top 10 as of April 25 (previous ranking in parenthesis):
