Nedbank Golf Challenge: Family decision brings Big Easy home

2013-11-10 06:00

In what will be a boost for local golf fans, Ernie Els will tee it up at this year’s Nedbank Golf Challenge scheduled for Gary Player Club, Sun City, from December 5 to 8.

The announcement of Big Easy’s return to play before his home fans was made yesterday by organisers Sun International.

The towering player was originally struck off the playing list at this year’s prestigious event. This after he pronounced that he would not be available as he would be playing at the World Challenge organised by world number one Tiger Woods in the same week.

“Ernie has informed us that he has now changed his mind and that he will be supporting a tournament he has won three times and earned a record amount of prize money in its 32-year-history,” read a statement.

Els said: “I’m really looking forward to coming back and playing such a special event. It was actually a family decision to play at home,” he said.

Els will be back at the famous Pilanesberg course.

He has snatched the BMW International Open on the European Tour this year.

Els won the prestigious British Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes in Lancashire, England, last year.
