There’s a common saying: “Some things should be left to the experts.”

This is what was going through my mind as I marvelled at the skinny models strutting their stuff on the ramp on the opening day of SA Fashion Week.

The apparel, the make-up and hair was out of this world.

» Apparel

Some of the clothing on show should never be worn in public unless you have ambitions of starring in a sci-fi movie.

A dress designed by Suzaan Heyns is a case in point.

It looked like a mesh fabric with scary googly eyes all over. From afar, the eyes looked like fish scales.

» Make-up

If I crossed paths at night with some of the models that were showcasing Clive Rundle’s autumn/winter collection, I would probably scream my lungs out.

Whatever you do, don’t try it at home.

» Hair

The puffed-up hair adorned by Heyns’ models was sort of fresh – but only on the ramp.

» SA Fashion Week is taking place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Rosebank, Joburg, until Saturday night
