New intelligence boss sworn in

Newly appointed inspector-general for intelligence Faith Doreen

Radebe was officially sworn in to her post on Wednesday.

The swearing-in ceremony was conducted by Cape Judge President John

Hlophe in Parliament, during a special sitting of the Joint Standing Committee

on Intelligence.

Radebe will be responsible for oversight of the country’s civilian

intelligence services, ensuring that the work of the services falls within the

constitutional framework of the country.

Upon taking the oath of office, Radebe committed herself to working

with Parliament and the state security ministry in adding value to the work of

the intelligence services.

Radebe’s nomination was approved by Parliament on February 17,

2010. She was previously South Africa’s High Commissioner to all Caribbean

community countries.

Her previous experience includes being special legal advisor on

conditions of service for the Intelligence Service Council and a senior manager

in the Office of the Coordinator for Intelligence in 2003 and 2000

respectively.

She also held positions in the National Intelligence Agency (NIA)

between 1998 and 1999.
