Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma for president

African Union Commission chair has stood the test of time and can lead SA with aplomb

Mpho wa ga Rakoma

Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, former anti-apartheid activist, the longest-serving minister (1994-2012) under all democratically elected presidents and now African Union Commission chairperson is the female president-in-waiting.

Her decorated CV speaks volumes of her ability as a leader in all spheres. Dlamini-Zuma is a female president-in-waiting because she is a true leader and a freedom fighter, not a bureaucrat or a diplomat.

This is because of the impact she made in social and human causes, and global understanding as a civil servant, over the course of her life.

Those close to her are quoted as describing her as “refreshing; very simple, uncomplicated and frank; open, honest and direct; and having a “capacity for hard work”, and her “genuineness” as “legendary” within the ANC, adding that, “when the situation calls for it, she can be tough and difficult, and can get very stubborn indeed”.

Like any leader, despite her successes, Dlamini-Zuma is no stranger to controversy. It is observed that her brusque, direct and sometimes abrasive management have earned her many enemies.

If you’re in doubt about Dlamini-Zuma’s qualities, read “Understanding the purpose and power of woman” by Dr Myles Munroe, especially Chapter 11: “Should women be in Leadership.”

We can reward Dlamini-Zuma’s illustrious political career by voting for her, so that she can be mentioned in the same breath as Liberian president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Malawian president Joyce Banda.
