Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma thanks ‘gallant fighter’ Mandela

2013-12-10 14:25

African Union Commission chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has thanked Nelson Mandela for the sacrifices he had made.

She hailed the late former president as a “gallant fighter” locally, on the continent and the world.

“Tata, we thank you for your sacrifices for Africa and the rest of the world, the lessons you taught us,” she said.

Dlamini-Zuma said he was willing to defend what he felt was right.

In conclusion, she had a wish for the continent: “May Africa be at peace with itself. May it be united in the world,” she said.

There was loud singing behind the stage where Dlamini-Zuma is speaking and her words were sometimes drowned out, despite ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa’s plea to the crowd at the start to be quiet.
