‘Not the end’ for Obakeng

2012-08-08 15:00

It’s not “the end of the road” for Idols contestant Obakeng Ramaboa, he says, as there is “room for me in the music industry”.

Ramaboa (26) last night became the first person voted out of the current series of the reality show.

“Being in the Top 10 was a great achievement; I am very grateful and proud of myself. The show gave me loads of exposure and it’s now up to me to push from here,” he said.

According to the show’s publicists, there were over 200 000 more votes cast in this year’s Top 10 round than in last year’s Top 10, with Ramaboa receiving the least number of votes.

Mentored by singer Louise Carver last week, Ramaboa said it was contestants Khaya Mthethwa, Tshidi Tenyane and Chloe Kiley who were the best performers in the Top 10 show.

“I have made friends with all these people so to say who I think will win the competition would be unfair of me because I really don’t know,” he said.

This week the Top 9 contestants will be mentored by pop singer Tamara Dey.

John Legend will perform during the Top 9 Spectacular, broadcast on M-Net, M-Net HD and Mzansi Magic at 5:30pm on Sunday.
