Nothing off-colour about this affair

2010-01-31 09:44

IT looked like a scene from a hippies’ movie with every possible

colour under the sun and interesting designs at this year’s J&B Met.

Yellow was clearly the colour of choice as an estimated 50?000

fashionistas and racing enthusiasts descended on Cape Town’s Kenilworth

Racecourse to enjoy the premier horse-racing event. There was some serious

parading of outfits to match this year’s outrageous theme – In Full

Colour.

While some celebrities, like Top Billing’s globe-trotting presenter

Jeannie D and her partner in travel, Janez Vermeiren, stuck to dark colours,

others like Sonia Sedibe went all out to look colourful and regal in a yellow

and olive-green Lojas De Moda creation.

YFM presenters Hlelo and Ntando Masina wore playful knee-length,

form-fitting, multicoloured matching dresses. Even Kaya?FM station manager Greg

Maloka cut a respectable figure in a suit.

Braving the 30km/h wind, fashionistas allowed their dresses to

display the “Marilyn Monroe effect” while the men looked like they were not

fazed.

One person who was all smiles was singer/actress Thembi Seete, who

wowed the judges with her over-the-top yet stunning blue frock made by

Gert-Johan Coetzee.

Meanwhile, Coetzee’s business partner Uyanda Mbuli also showed off

her dress-making skills with a self-made form-fitting purple dress with

turquoise accessories.

Generations actress Sophie Ndaba strutted her stuff in a rose-pink

knee-length dress, also made by Mbuli.

The sight of fashionistas clamouring to place their bets on their

favourite horse put the cherry on top of an event that many Capetonians make a

point of attending every year.
