Oscar trial postponed

2014-03-28 09:55

The Oscar Pistorius murder trial has been postponed because one of the assessors is “not well”.

The courtroom was today packed with members of the public, the media as well as family members of Pistorius and Reeva Steenkamp, ahead of Pistorius taking to the witness stand in his own defence.

But Judge Thokozile Masipa this morning said Janet Henzen-Du Toit, one of the assessors, was not well and that meant the court was “not properly constituted”.

Assessors are appointed to assist a judge in evaluating evidence.

Masipa this morning apologised for the delay but asked that the matter be postponed to April 7.

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel and Barry Roux agreed to the postponement.
