Murder-accused paralympian Oscar Pistorius’ application for a firearm licence was initially rejected.

Beeld newspaper reported that the licence, for a 9mm firearm, was not approved when he applied for it in 2008.

This is the firearm with which Pistorius allegedly shot dead his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, in his Pretoria home last week.

He is applying for bail today.

Beeld said it was not clear why the application was unsuccessful but the licence was approved in 2010 after Pistorius appealed against the decision not to grant him a licence.

He has six other pending applications for firearm licences, reported the Afrikaans daily.

Meanwhile, Pistorius’ luxury house has been on the market since 2011.

Ina Laubscher, an estate agent for Pam Golding properties, told Beeld that by September 2011, when the sale of the house became her responsibility, the property had been on the market for months.

The asking price for the four bedroom home is R6.5 million.

“In the current market it is very difficult to sell such an expensive home,” Laubscher said.

She said she was not sure why Pistorius was trying to sell it, but that he did not seem to be in a hurry to conclude a sale.

“There have been times when prospective buyers wanted to see it, but Oscar was often not available to show them around or negotiate over the price,” Laubscher said.

The house, with a property size of 1 045 square metres and a floor area of 580 square metres, has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, five reception rooms, three garages and a swimming pool.
