Over 500 babies were born across South Africa during the Christmas

A total of 169 babies were born in the Western Cape, according to Departmental

spokeswoman Anzelle Smit.

She said the first of the 86 boys and 83 girls born in the province

Two sets of twin boys were born at Tygerberg Hospital in Cape

Town.

The province takes the lead in the most Christmas babies born,

followed closely by Kwazulu-Natal which stands at 140 births. Results from

certain hospitals in the province are not yet known.

Mpumalanga recorded 75 births, Limpopo 63 newborns and the Free

State 41 babies born.

Gauteng had 23 births reported and the Eastern Cape 21.
