PAC to focus on ‘rebuilding the party’ ahead of 2014 elections

2013-09-07 09:21

The Pan Africanist Congress’s national executive committee is meeting to plot a new path for the party, its deputy president Ngila Muendane has said.

Muendane said yesterday the three-day meeting in Pretoria would focus on rebuilding the party based on shared values.

“For many years the PAC has been at war itself, instead of becoming a formidable political organisation ready to run this country,” Muendane said.

He said the PAC needed to develop a spirit of unity.

“Team building is something this meeting will focus on as we prepare for 2014 elections.”

Last month, a faction of the PAC criticised National Assembly Speaker Max Sisulu for replacing the party’s expelled president Letlapa Mphahlele as an MP.

Mphahlele was expelled as party president at the end of May after a meeting of the PAC’s national disciplinary committee.

Mphahlele’s backers then applied for a court interdict to stop Parliament from replacing him with his deputy Alton Mphethi.

The faction vowed to take legal action, including reporting abuse of office by the Speaker to the Public Protector.
