PS: Loyiso Gola

2009-12-18 13:30

Dubbed the next big thing in comedy, Loyiso Gola is on the fast track to superstardom. He has come a long way since working as a petrol attendant. Here he talks about getting knocked out by a girl in his hometown of Cape Town.

Life is ... like a box of chocolate. I’ve never understood this but I think life is like a box of eggs.

My first job was...working as a petrol attendant at a Total garage. I was 16 years old.

The most romantic thing I’ve ever done is ...ask my woman (pop the “question”). She knows I pull out all the stops when it’s crunch time.

Right now I am listening to ...Jadakiss and Illskillz.

My real life hero is ... mom, she is very strong.

My fictional hero is... the tokoloshe. He or she scares the living daylights out of black people, which is hard.

My favourite place in South Africa is ...Cape Town. As hard as it is out there for a black man it is still my hometown.

I love being around my family because ... they are crazy and they complete me.

My dream car is ...I am not really into cars. I have not really thought of that one. Apparently a Ferrari is cool but it costs a fortune.

The one phrase I overuse is ...unbelievable!

Especially when I am watching the news. When Blade Nzimande (Minister of Higher Education) decided as a communist leader that he needs a million-rand car, I was like that’s unbelievable.

Before the end of the day I just have to ...speak to my girl.

I was so embarrassed when ... I got knocked out by a girl in primary school. That was humiliating.

Living the African dream for me would be ... to be alive. It doesn’t get better than that in Africa.

If I could change one thing about me it would be ... nothing. I think of life like a poker game … fold or wait for the next hand.

When I think of 2010 I think of ...tourists. In fact I am scared now that the English have qualified, those people are not focused. How did they ever colonise us?

The best day of the week is ... Sunday because I usually take it easy, listen to jazz, home cooked meal and the couch.

I knew my career and were I meant to be when ...I got my first pay, I said I do!

My favourite room in the house is ... the toilet, I can’t live without it.

My favourite childhood memory is ... lunchtime at school was always cool... bragging about what your mom put in your lunchbox.

My all-time favourite old-school track is ...Melba Moore’s Brand New.

My next project is ... a satirical news show, I’m in talks about it with some people.
