PS: Siphokazi

2009-09-05 13:02

SAMA-nominated Siphokazi has silenced critics with her amazing

voice. Her sense of style is also winning her legions of admirers

throughout the country.

Her upcoming performance at the

Hennessy Artistry at The Venue in Melrose Arch has got fans excited.

Here she talks about her inspiration, Busi Mhlongo, and her love for

the KwaZulu-Natal climate.

Life is ... a

journey that you have to embrace. You can’t worry about things you

cannot change – you need to live life to the fullest because you only

live once.

My first job was ... acting in a radio drama that was broadcast on Umhlobo Wenene FM in the Transkei, Eastern Cape.

The

most romantic thing I have ever done was ... drive through the misty

mountain passes in the Eastern Cape at dawn, watching the summer sun

rise to expose green surroundings.

Right now I am watching

... my new DVD that was recorded at the Alexander Theatre and was

hosted by Metro FM and Inkomazi in 2007.

My

favourite place to play ... is in a movie cinema or in front of the TV.

My kind of fun is watching comedy. Laughing is therapy to my soul.

My real-life heroine is ... Busi Mhlongo, her music inspires me.

My fictional hero ... Right now I don’t have one.

My favourite place in South Africa is ... Durban – I love the warm climate. I don’t like to be cold.

I

love being around my family because ... they give me love, security and

comfort. Their love inspired me to write a few songs about family.

My dream car is ... a Jeep Wrangler or Sahara five-door because of my height. I always dream of big cars.

The

one phrase I overuse is ... “God’s delays are not God’s denials”

because I know I am an example of dreams come true. I waited a very

long time before I got where I am today.

Before the end of the day ... I just have to pray because I cannot do things without the presence of the Lord in my life.

I was so embarrassed when ... I fell in front of a crowd during a performance and started to cry because I was in so much pain.

Living

the African dream for me would be ... to visit as many African

countries as I possibly can and to learn about cultures and languages.

If

I could change one thing about me, it would be ... I wanted to change

my eyes, lips and height but now I am content with myself.

When

I think of 2010 I think of ... economic growth, business opportunities

and tourism that will take place and enhance our country.

The best day of the week is ... Sunday because I go to church, enjoy fellowship and get revived for the week ahead.

I

knew my career and it was meant to be ... when I started singing during

school assembly and started getting involved in musical activities

throughout my childhood.

My favourite room in the

house is ... I do not have a particular favourite but I love my

bedroom because that is where I rest, compose music and brainstorm

fresh ideas. The kitchen is where I experiment with food and enhance my

baking skills.

My favourite childhood memory is

... when I, together with six other girls, sang a welcoming song for

our principal who had returned from a trip to Britain. I led the song

as lead vocalist.

My all-time favourite old-school

track is ... Hero by Mariah Carey. I used to imitate her and improvise

the words as I didn’t know the lyrics. I’d always strain my voice when

attempting to reach those high notes.

My next

project is ... at the moment I am enjoying my second album and

continuing to promote it. Plus, I have a youth project in the pipeline

that has to do with the upliftment and motivation of young people.
