PS: Theo Kgosinkwe

He was one of four top South African performers who collaborated at this year’s Hennessy Artistry event and this former member of Mafikizolo is making waves on the SA charts.

His slick dance moves and soulful voice has all of South Africa talking with his latest album, I Am. Here Theo talks about his favourite place and the spirit of Ubuntu.

Life is … unpredictable at all times. You never know what’ll happen next.

My first job was … at a video duplication company. I was responsible for packaging video tapes.

Right now I am listening to … my latest album, I Am, sometimes it’s hard to believe how great the album is – it’s a dream come true. I’m also listening to Mafikizolo, Lira, Zamajobe, Mimi, Thembisile, Zonke, Jaziel Brothers, Barorisi Ba Morena and Pastor Benjamin Dube.

My real life hero is … my dad because he raised me well with good morals and values.

My fictional hero … is Spiderman, Jet Li and Bruce Lee.

My favourite place in South Africa is … Mogale City. It’s one of the greatest cities ever and I was born and raised there. It prides itself as the only city of the origin of humankind (Cradle of Humankind). It’s my kasi! I also love Cape Town for the views of the ocean and its quietness. Not forgetting Durban – because it seriously rocks.

I love being around my family because … they complete me, they make me happy, they are loving and caring. I have wonderful joyous time when I’m around them and they are the best.

My dream car is … an Aston Martin DB9 for sure.

One of the phrases I overuse is … “You know.”

Before the end of the day … I take a shower and relax in my entertainment room.

I was so embarrassed when … at one of our Mafikizolo shows I mistakenly called the area North West not long after the name was changed and I was booed by the fans.

Living the African dream for me is … embracing the spirit of Ubuntu and tolerance.

If I could change one thing about me … I wouldn’t change anything about me but I can improve on my weaknesses.
When I think 2010, I think … opportunities for jobs, international exposure to show the world what we can offer in terms of music, arts, sports, and opportunities for tourism.

My favourite day of the week is … Sunday because I get to refill my spirit with my God, praise and worship Him, and enjoy fellowship with others. I like to take time to relax with my family and visit friends and generally take it easy.

I knew my career and I were meant to be … when we (Mafikizolo) first won three SAMAs, when I won a SAMA as a solo artist for the Best African Pop Album, and also when my albums reached gold status in terms of sales.

My favourite room in the house … is my bedroom – it’s designed for passion and intimacy. It’s where you keep the fire of love burning.

My favourite childhood memory is … when my dad took us to a year-end function at his workplace and we were given toys. Also when my mom used to buy me nice stuff when I was sick – that was the time I felt like being spoiled.

My all-time favourite old time school favourite track is … End of the Road by Boyz II Men.

My next project is … working on my second solo album, 2010, and with our new female artist at our record company.
