Parents furious at daughter’s expulsion ‘for kissing other girls’

The parents of a Grade 12 pupil are angry their daughter has been expelled from her school’s hostel for allegedly kissing and sexually harassing other girls.

The 18-year-old pupil was expelled from the Blue Hills College hostel, in Midrand, on January 20 after being found guilty of two offences relating to sexual harassment, The Star newspaper reported today.

She allegedly kissed a girl on the school’s premises and shared a bed with another girl.

While her parents admitted she violated school rules, they said the expulsion was harsh and not procedural.

“The principal phoned me to say ‘come pick up your child, she has been suspended.’ It is clear that the decision was taken even before the disciplinary hearing,” said her mother.

Although not expelled from the school itself, the girl had reportedly been unable to attend as her parents could not afford to pay for her to travel 180km a day between Westonaria and Midrand.

The school’s marketing director Chief Ndlovu told the newspaper it did not tolerate any sexual interaction on the premises.

“If a particular pupil has a sexual orientation problem, let her practise it at home. Just as boys may like boys. We won’t tolerate sexual activity at the school.”

The girl’s sexual orientation had not influenced the decision to expel her from the hostel, Ndlovu said.
