Petrol Price to drop nine cents in Jan

2009-12-31 12:47

The retail price of 93 octane unleaded and lead replacement petrol

will drop nine cents a litre from January 6, the department of energy said.

The price of 95 octane unleaded and lead replacement petrol would

go down six cents a litre, while the price of all grades of diesel would

decrease 14 cents a litre.

This means that a litre of ULP 95 will now cost R7.86 in

Gauteng.

The energy department said the wholesale price of illuminating

paraffin would drop 12 cents a litre and the single maximum national retail

price by 16 cents.

The maximum LPGas refinery gate price would be R5198.18 a metric

ton (or 288.50 cents a litre).

It said the decrease followed a drop in the average international

product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin during the period

under review.

The average rand/US dollar exchange rate had also strengthened,

from 7.5722 during the previous period to 7.5246 between November 27 and

December 30.

At the start of December, the retail price of all grades of petrol

rose 27 cents a litre; the wholesale price of diesel with a 0.05 percent sulphur

content by 25 cents a litre; and that of diesel with a 0.005 percent sulphur

content by 26 cents a litre.

The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin went up 29 cents a

litre and the single maximum national retail price for illuminating paraffin by

39 cents a litre.
