Pint-sized Arts Festival

2011-07-01 13:09

The National Arts Festival is under way in Grahamstown and a number of shows on the fringe are aimed at families.

There is also a daily programme for children. One for those between the ages of 4 and 6 that includes a daily show as well as handicrafts and lunch, and another for primary schoolchildren that includes workshops, shows and lunch.

As for the family shows on offer there are more than a dozen. Among them is an encore-run from Pierrot Mc Clown (July 10, Mullins Room), the European mime whose hilarious performance is sans language barriers.

The Well Worn Theatre Company are putting on The Pollution Revolution (until July 9, Memory Hall), a piece of fun storytelling with a powerful environmental message.

Others include Animal Fantasy (today, Memory Hall), which is a toe-tapping participation show that makes use of puppets to engage the young audience, as well as Dr Pocket’s Ocean Commotion (until July 10, Memory Hall) featuring pirates and sea-monsters, and then there’s A Fairy Tale Mystery (Monday to July 8, Memory Hall) which invites kids to follow the fairytale clues to find out who kidnapped the?Fairy?Godmother.
