Pirates have mountain to climb against Esperance

2013-10-18 13:46

After failing to score in their previous three CAF Champions League matches, Orlando Pirates have to score away in Esperance if they are to advance to the final.

Pirates, who played to a goalless draw against Esperance at home two weeks ago, have a mountain to climb away in Tunisia tomorrow night in the second leg of the continental competition.

But whatever Pirates do, Esperance will have to better it because of the away-goals rule.

Pirates need a win or a scoring draw to advance to the final where they will meet either Coton Sport of Cameroon or Al Ahly of Egypt.

But a worry for Pirates would be their inability to convert their goal-scoring chances.

Before their goalless draw against Esperance a fortnight ago, Pirates had also failed to score against Al Ahly and AC Leopards of Congo.

Coach Roger de Sa was in a confident mood when the team jetted out of the country on Wednesday evening.

De Sa’s only worry was the hostile reception expected from the capacity crowd of about 65 000 supporters.

But he said his team would be ready for the onslaught as they knew what was expected of them.

Bucs will be without their trusted captain Lucky Lekgwathi, who has missed the team’s previous four matches.

De Sa said he had cover for Lekgwathi and the injured Siyabonga Sangweni and Patrick Phungwayo.
