Pirates ready to spoil the party in Cairo – Thabo Matlaba

2013-11-08 17:11

Last weekend’s Orlando Pirates goal hero, Thabo Matlaba, believes his side can pull off a stunning victory to lift the CAF Champions League trophy on Sunday.

The left back, who scored a last-minute equaliser against Al Ahly last weekend, says they are ready to spoil the party in Cairo, where 25 000 supporters are expected to pack the Arab Contractors Stadium on Sunday evening.

Al Ahly supporters were out in their numbers today trying to get their hands on tickets at the club’s base in Cairo. Tickets for the encounter were expected to be snatched up quickly because it is played at Al Ahly’s home base in Cairo.

But Matlaba was not too concerned about the crowd’s impact. He said they have studied their opponents and knew what to expect from the home team.

“We have done our homework and are prepared for anything they will be throwing at us. The good thing is that we have been doing well away from home and we hope this will continue on Sunday,” said Matlaba at Pirates’ base in Cairo today.

He said it would be match suicide to sit back and try to catch Al Ahly on counter attack.

“We need goals and we should attack from the onset and unsettle them. We know they are good defensively but we have a plan to counter them.”

He said the absence of Andile Jali and Happy Jele would not affect the team as they have enough good players to replace them.

The match kicks off at 6pm South African time.
