Pitso not chuffed by result

Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane admits that he is not happy with their 1-1 draw with Ethiopia in a 2014 Soccer World Cup qualifier.

South Africa needed a late goal from Katlego Mphela to salvage a home draw against a lively Ethiopian side yesterday and although Mosimane was pleased with the second-half, he is hoping that the result will wake his side up.

“Ethiopia started well, they were more ready than us. I think the guys thought it would be easy. But it was tough. It was not only tough because they have got the endurance, but they also played football. You must give them credit, they did very well,” he said.

“We came back second-half and we did what we were supposed to do, but a little but too late. In the first five minutes we had two chances and we didn’t take them, it’s the same story, let’s not go there.

“Second-half, they played South African football. They did their best, the show determination, they showed pride. I’m happy with the second-half, but I’m not happy with the result.

“Sometimes a wake-up call is good, maybe it was a good start for us like this so that we know there is no easy team.”

Looking ahead, he added, “There is 15 points to play for, last year we got a draw at home won the other two. We will win the others.”
