The mother-in-law of Mido Macia, the 27-year-old victim of police brutality, says she will believe that justice will be served when she “sees it”.

Suspended Daveyton station commander Ndebele gave the assurance the guilty would pay during a visit to the family of the murdered taxi driver today.

Ndebele was in full police uniform and was accompanied by one General Mayisa and two other officers, also in police regalia.

Ndebele refused to comment about her suspension, saying police commissioner Riah Phiyega had issued a statement this morning.

Police allegedly told his family that he was assaulted by other men in the holding cells.

Footage of Macia being dragged behind a police van after apparently resisting arrest has made international headlines.

Macia’s mother-in-law, Badalisile Ngwenya – with whom he has lived since the Mozambican national arrived in South Africa with his brother, Serge – said she was still shocked by what happened.

“Ndebele assured us that this would be fast-tracked and if anybody is guilty they would face the law.”

“But, I will believe that when it happens,” she said.
