‘Police tortured me’ into implicating Maswanganyi’s wife, says accused

2013-09-07 11:25

One of four men, accused of killing Major-Gen Tirhani Maswanganyi, claimed he was tortured by police into admitting the slain officer’s wife was involved in the crime.

“They tubed me with a bucket of water, [nearly] drowning me with it...They also severely assaulted me,” Roger Moseki told the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court yesterday, the Saturday Star reported.

“They told me that I should admit the fact that I was aware that Maswanganyi’s wife hired us to kill the general, but I could not do that because it was not true. I told them I don’t even know who she is.”

Moseki, Tshepo Mosai, Daniel Nefolovhodwe and Isaac Vele are facing murder charges after Maswanganyi’s body was found, with his hands and feet bound, in a veld along the R101 in Hamaanskraal on June 17.

Moseki was testifying at his bail application. It was postponed to September 18.
