2014-01-02 09:26

A 40-year-old man has been arrested in Verulam for five rapes in the Waterloo area, say KwaZulu-Natal police.

The cases date back to April last year, Captain Thulani Zwane said yesterday.

In some instances, the alleged rapist forced men to watch while he raped their girlfriends.

Zwane said the most recent case was reported on Tuesday. A 27-year-old woman was walking with her boyfriend when the man held them up with a firearm at 10.15pm.

“The victim was raped in front of her boyfriend. A case of rape was opened at the Verulam police station.”

He said the man was seen in the area yesterday morning, police were informed and he was arrested.

He will appear in the Verulam Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

In another case, a 21-year-old man was arrested for murder and attempted murder yesterday.

“It is alleged that the suspect approached two victims near the Osindisweni area on December 31 and stabbed both of them with a knife after an argument.”

Nkosikhona Zwane (20) died at the scene and the second victim was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Their assailant will appear in the Verulam Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
