Policewoman, man gunned down

2011-04-28 08:51

A female police constable and her companion were killed in Avoca Hills on Freedom Day, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

The officer, who was based at the Durban Port Security Services, was sitting in a private vehicle with a male data typist from Greenwood Park police station yesterday when they were accosted by armed men, Lieutenant Colonel Vincent Mdunge said.

The officer was shot in the back and the man was fatally wounded in the head and chest.

They both died at the scene.

Mdunge said the motive of the attack was unknown as the car the two were in and their other personal belongings were not taken during the incident.

“We will be guided by the investigation,” he said.

A double murder case has been opened and no arrests had yet been made, Mdunge said.
