Princess Diana movie coming soon

2011-10-06 08:53

London – A $50 million (R414 million) biopic of Britain’s Princess Diana is being developed.

Renaissance Films’ Stephen Evans has asked Diana’s former head of security Ken Wharfe and one-time private secretary, Commander Patrick Jephson, to advise on the accuracy of the project and says the film will be fascinating because the royal – who died in a Paris car crash in 1997 – was “a wagonload of monkeys”.

He said: “It’s an amazing story. What is quite clear is that her [Princess Diana’s] life was an amazing life. She was a wagonload of monkeys but she was also an amazing, fascinating, ballsy woman.”

Bomb proof
“The people we are dealing with were the closest people to Diana. Essentially, we don’t stray from it [the truth]. There’s enough amusement, enough poignancy and enough drama that we don’t need to move from it.”

While the film will focus on the princess’ life leading up to her divorce from Prince Charles and won’t feature her controversial relationship with Dodi al Fayed, Stephen is not hopeful of getting the blessing of Buckingham Palace.

He added to Screendaily.com: “I have no idea. I wouldn’t think they’d be thrilled about it but if they knew what we’re writing, I think they’d be relieved and pleased.

“You don’t often get a movie like this where you know, that if you can make it work, it is bomb proof. The irony is that it’s not so much bomb proof from the point of view of who is in it – it is bomb proof because in female terms, it [Princess Diana] is probably the grandest marquee name of the 20th century.”
