Pupil stabbed to death

2012-02-29 15:09

Five young men have been arrested after a grade 12 pupil was stabbed to death outside Vorentoe High School in Westdene, Johannesburg.

The boy, whose age is not yet known to police, was stabbed outside Vorentoe as other pupils were leaving after school this afternoon.

None of the alleged assailants, aged between 16 and 28, are pupils at the school, said police spokesperson warrant-officer Gordon Billings.

A parent waiting for her children rushed the boy, believed to be from Soweto, to neighbouring Helen Joseph Hospital where he died.

He was stabbed in the neck by a former pupil, said a schoolgirl who witnessed the attack, speaking on condition of anonymity. Witnesses said the stabbing was sparked by a fight, but the details are not yet clear.

Distraught friends of the boy rushed to the Helen Joseph Hospital. Some were ordered by hospital staff not to talk to City Press.

Billings said the five suspects are expected to appear in the Newlands Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.

All face charges of murder.
