Put conference on hold – ANCYL

2012-04-19 14:21

ANC Youth League (ANCYL) members in Limpopo gathered outside the party’s headquarters in Polokwane demanding that its upcoming weekend elective conference be put on hold.

League members accused the ANC’s provincial executive committee today of not adhering to the party’s elective process when conference delegates were nominated during branch meetings.

They wanted the disbanded Peter Mokaba region to participate in the conference, claiming it had been dissolved to suppress leaders opposed to provincial secretary Jacob Lebogo.

Lebogo, a close ally of suspended league president Julius Malema, was standing for re-election as secretary. His supporters backed league treasurer Rudzani Ludere for the post of chairperson.

ANCYL Polokwane sub-regional secretary Joel Seabi said they wanted to meet with the ANC’s national executive committee to discuss their problems.

He said: “We are gathered here, as branches that are concerned, to say the league provincial executive did not conduct their meeting in a proper manner.”

Seabi said ANCYL members would accept the elected leadership and allow the elective conference to go ahead if proper processes were followed.

Police were monitoring the situation.

The conference was due to start tomorrow in Polokwane.
