2012-11-21 10:43

Northern Cape ANC chairperson and Finance MEC John Block, Social Development MEC Alvin Botes and ANC MP Yolanda Botha have been released on R50 000 bail each.

The three members of the ANC’s Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) appeared in the Kimberley Magistrates’ Court today.

Block and Botes face charges of alleged corruption and money laundering.

Both are accused of corruption and fraud.

The cases relates to the alleged deviation from tender procedures with the leasing of building in Springbok, Kuruman, Douglas and Kimberley.

City Press reported yesterday that on October 26, the Northern Cape High Court granted an order to attach Botha’s assets in connection with the same case.

Prosecutor Peter Serunye said all accused in the case handed themselves over this morning. Seven individuals and five companies have been charged.

Businessman Christo Scholtz was also granted bail of R50 000, Sapa reported. Three South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) officials, Rodney Saal, Calvin Rayland and Palesa Lebona were released on bail of R5 000 each.

The accused agreed to the bail amounts and bail conditions. The case was postponed until March 7 2013.
