Recipes to whet every appetite

2011-11-25 14:01

Confession time: I love the Marie Claire cookbooks.

There is always something new, inspiring or unusual to cook, and the recipes themselves are easy enough to follow.

The books are beautifully presented and the pictures show the food as it would end up on your plate.

All this should be inspiration enough to try the recipes, but add to that Cranston’s unique style of writing and the chapters (not the regular meat, vegetables and pasta sections here), and you have a great cookbook and equally good gift for a food lover.

The chapters are titled Bite, Refresh, Savour, Zen, Warmth and Blossom, and you will find in each chapter the perfect dish to cook.

My favourite chapter has to be Refresh (or salads in usual cookbook speak). It’s summer and this chapter gives an amazing variety of really yummy salads to supplement the usual Greek or potato salads.

Then the author gets stuck into some seriously decadent desserts. Try the baked Chai custards or the rose-scented Eton mess. You will have your family or guests baying for more.

I challenge anyone not to find something cookable here, even if it’s just the roast chicken (done here with limes). Or give the book as a gift, but make sure you get an invite every time they dip into this little gem.
