Red carpet for gospel queen Rebecca

2009-09-12 14:01

DURBAN is rolling out the red carpet for the queen of gospel on Friday. A gala dinner in honour of Rebecca Malope will be held in the Jesus Dome at the Durban Christian Centre, as part of the Crown Gospel Music Awards.

Dubbed the Rebecca Malope Ebenezer Celebration, she will perform with rising gospel stars Sechaba and Sfiso Ncwane.

Malope won a lifetime achievement award at the inaugural Crown Gospel Awards last year.

Among those attending will be members of local government from KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga, as well as Durban’s Mayor Obed Mlaba.

Malope will be presented with a large cake with her name on it – and you can get a slice for R150, the price of a ticket.

The nominations for this year’s awards close on Wednesday at midnight and the awards ceremony will be held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hall in Durban on November 22.

The number of categories has increased from 20 last year to 24. New ones are best engineer, best R&B/rap gospel, best maskandi gospel and best pop/rock gospel.

The awards are open to recording companies and artists who live in South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Botswana, Namibia and Mozambique. – Staff Reporter
