“A child of God” is how her friends describe deceased model Reeva Steenkamp, who died in Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius’s house this morning.

Steenkamp, who was dating Pistorius, was allegedly shot dead by him in the early hours of the morning.

The beauty touched many people’s lives, including that of Lucinda Human who worked with her at men’s magazine FHM.

“She was my friend and I can’t believe she’s gone. She was an amazing person whom everyone at FHM enjoyed working with,” said Human.

Steenkamp, who was a law graduate, first graced the cover of FHM in 2011. Chantelle Da Silva, former FHM fashion editor, met Steenkamp at this shoot and describes her, through sobs, as a “peaceful, religious, beautiful person who would never hurt anyone. I have never met anyone as beautiful inside and out.

“I last spoke to Reeva two weeks ago and we were supposed to meet for lunch and catch up but I guess that won’t happen now,” she said.

Da Silva said she has not been able to get in touch with Steenkamp’s family.

“I understand they must be devastated. I tried calling her best friend, who she lived with, but she isn’t taking any calls. I don’t think her family will ever know how many friends Reeva had and how many people’s lives she touched.”

According to Steenkamp’s friends, she was the top celebrity model at FHM. Last year she was in Cape Town for a Legacy Hotel magazine shoot.

“She was such a motivated girl and a professional. She had so much to look forward to. She was a very private person who didn’t speak much about her relationship,” said Da Silva.

One of the last tweets Reeva received last night was an invitation to have cupcakes at Sandton Mini Cooper today. She received the invitation from general manager Candice McKenna. Steenkamp responded: “I’m there like a bear!!! Yayyyy!!!! X”

McKenna declined to comment. “If this has anything to do with this morning’s story, I can’t help.”

A few hours before her death, Steenkamp tweeted: “What do you have up your sleeve for your love tomorrow??? #getexcited #ValentinesDay.”

SABC1 confirmed today that they would continue to broadcast the reality show, Tropika Island of Treasure, in which Steenkamp stars. She travelled to Jamaica to shoot the 10-part series.

“As SABC1, we are deeply saddened by the tragic turn of events involving one of the players on our show, Tropika Island of Treasure Season 5. Our thoughts and prayers during these trying times are with the family and friends of the dearly departed Reeva Steenkamp,” said SABC1 spokesperson Vukile Madlala in a statement.

The show is scheduled to be broadcasted on SABC1 on Saturday at 6.30pm.
