‘Road rage’ cop found dead

2012-01-30 12:03

A police officer who went missing after a road rage incident has been found dead in a ditch in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.

A massive search resulted in the discovery of the body of Constable Skhumbuzo Mkhwanazi (32) around 6am yesterday, Colonel Jay Naicker said.

Mkhwanazi went missing after he was involved in a road rage brawl with another motorist in the area on Saturday morning. Details of the road rage incident were not immediately available.

“Mkhwanazi failed to return home since the incident, and a search was conducted in the area where he was last seen by his friends,” Naicker said.

“At this stage no foul play is suspected and a post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.”

Mkhwanazi was member of the public order police unit in Pietermaritzburg at the time of his death.

The Daily Sun newspaper reported he was the brother of acting national police commissioner Lt Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. Neither Naicker nor Mkhwanazi’s office could immediately confirm this.
