SA Fashion Week swept into town at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Rosebank last night where the Sheer Glamour Show by Motions and TRESemmé took place.

It was opened by Minnie Dlamini wearing a white Gert-Johan Coetzee gown with hair done by Nthato Mashishi.

There were gasps of shock and horror as organza made an unwelcome debut on the runway. Even the great bastion of high glamour and the avant-garde, Clive Rundle, couldn’t resist the combustible fabric.

For a moment, the runway resembled the red carpet of the Crown Gospel Awards where organza usually reigns supreme.

In the front row were fashionistas Lerato Kganyago, Zuraida Jardine, Somizi Mhlongo and Lalla Hirayama. They saw designs by Cutterier by Laz Yani, Rubicon, Lunar and Vino with fashionable hairstyles.

Black seemed to be the colour of choice this season as seen on several Joburg trendsetters.

On Tuesday night, celebrities gathered for a lively opening party at the posh Summer Place in Hyde Park. It featured performances by Mafikizolo and DJ Speedsta. The Afro-pop dance group sang some of their biggest classics to the approval of the guests.

Fashion lovers and celebrities rubbed shoulders as they enjoyed canapés and drinks on the patio and in the garden of the venue.

Among the revellers were Zakes Bantwini, Mo-T and J-Something of MiCasa, Donald, Nandi Mngoma, Luthando Sosha and Pearl Thusi.

» SA Fashion Week Spring/Summer Collections continues tonight at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Rosebank. It will showcase the works of Black Coffee, Amanda Laird Cherry, Clive Rundle, Lunar, Cloche, Terrence Bray, Kottin & Twille, Sies! Isabelle, Ephymol and Loxion Kulca.
