Iconic swimmer Chad le Clos and athletics star Khotso Mokoena headline the list of achievers who have been nominated for this year’s South African Sport Awards.

Le Clos and Mokoena are the candidates for the sportsman of the year award, and the pair will also vie for the sought-after South African sports star of the year award in the list released by the sports and recreation department this morning.

Olympic and world champion Le Clos is synonymous with the sport awards, having won the 2012 grand prize and was also in the running last year where he was pipped by Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune.

This year, the 22-year-old aquatic star faces off against fellow Glasgow Commonwealth Games gold medallist Mokoena, who is also the reigning African champion in the triple jump.
