SA proud of Bafana, says ANC

Bafana Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena has done the country proud by being honoured with the Freedom of the City of London, the ANC said today.

“Not only has the Portsmouth captain made us proud as a good football ambassador, but he has also emerged as a role model for the youth of this country,” spokesperson Jackson Mthembu said in a statement.

“We are happy, pleased and proud of Mokoena’s achievements and for having raised the SA flag high wherever he goes.”

The party also congratulated artist William Kentridge and medical specialist Dr Johan van der Wat for excelling in their fields.

Kentridge was awarded the 2010 Kyoto prize in the category of arts and philosophy for his contributions to visual arts.

Dr Wat became the first Africa-based practitioner to be appointed to the board of the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopists.

Mthembu also wished Banyana Banyana luck when it faces defending champions Equatorial Guinea in the CAF African Women’s Championship match in Daveyton this afternoon.
