HOW MUCH DO SOUTH AFRICANS LISTEN TO RADIO?

Radio is the most accessed form of media in our country.

The SA Advertising Research Foundation says South Africans spend an average of three and a half hours a day listening to the

radio. There are more than 15.4?million radio sets in South Africa and more than 30?million listeners tune in

daily.

Cellphone users’ rates continue to climb as more people use their mobile devices as a way of catching up with their favourite station.

WHAT ARE OUR LISTENING PATTERNS?

The foundation’s latest figures indicate radio listenership numbers remain stable, with no significant shifts in audience levels.

The weekly radio listenership is sitting at an impressive 32.7?million listeners.

AND THE AWARDS?

The sixth MTN Radio Awards received a record 1?750 entries from 110 radio stations last year, which ensures this year hosted the biggest radio awards to date, compared with 1?600 entries from 90 radio stations in 2013. It took the adjudication panel about 2?500 hours of listening to submissions to complete the process of adjudicating and scoring the entries to determine the best of the best in the local radio industry.

WHO IS LEADING THE PACK?

The biggest station by number of nominations remains Talk Radio 702, with an unprecedented 28 nominations. It is followed by Jacaranda FM, with 16, and Power FM, with 14.
