SA scoops 15 nominations at the MAMAs

South African musicians have been nominated a total of 15 times at this

year’s MTV African Music Award (Mamas) which takes place on 10 October in Kenya.

HHP has been nominated three times for the Best Male; Artist of the Year and

Best Video award where he will contend against fellow South Africa Da L.E.S in

the Best Male and Best Video category.

In the meantime both Lira and Zamajobe have been nominated in the Best Female

category.

Other South African nominees include Aking, Cassette, Zulu Boy, Loyiso,Zebra

& Giraffe, Rhythmic Elements and Gang of Instrumentals.

The awards which will be screened to over 1 Billion people around the world

will be hosted by former Fugees member and Grammy Award winning artist, Wyclef

Jean. Performers at the awards include Wycelf Jean, Lira as well as Kenya’s

Wahu.

Nigeria has also taken 15 nominations at this year’s awards and includes

2Face which scooped four nominations while D’Banj also scooped three

nominations. Although the Mamas aim is to promote African music on a world

stage, it does also recognise international artists. This year’s international

nominees include Jay-Z, Kanye West, Beyonce Green Day and Cold Play.
