Sporting bodies Safa and Sascoc will work closely together to foster a better relationship.

The South African Football Association and the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee held a meeting yesterday to discuss a number of issues.

The topics discussed at the meeting included coaching academies, high performance, provincial sport confederations and how Safa fits into the Sascoc strategy on each.

“I am happy that the meeting has been very fruitful and the fact that we are going to drive the sports agenda in collaboration with Safa,” Sascoc president Gideon Sam said yesterday.

In June, City Press reported that Sascoc and Safa were at war, with the football association accusing Sascoc of ‘disrespecting’ it.

Yesterday, Safa said their under-23 team was in a strong position, but the release of players by agents and clubs had been hampering the progress of the national team.

“Safa presented an update on their finances to the meeting by producing the financial report for the present year, which will be further discussed at the federation’s annual general meeting,” said Sascoc.

Both Safa and Sascoc decided that frequent meetings between the bodies would be held in the future to gauge progress on important issues.
