Santam spoofs Nando’s for spoofing Santam

The fast food chain is famous for its brazen television adverts, but now Nando’s is getting a taste of its own medicine.

Earlier in April Nando’s released a spoof of insurance company Santam’s latest television advert featuring actor Ben Kingsley.

The Nando’s advert pokes fun at this set-up and shows a local actor addressing the audience while the Nando’s meals on the counter next to him change.

Yesterday Santam struck back with a new video, saying it is flattered by the “cribbed” advert, and now challenges the fast food chain to deliver a long order of Nando’s menu items to the Johannesburg Children’s Home by 4pm tomorrow.

Quentin Cronje, marketing director for Nando’s, said on Talk Radio 702’s The Money Show that he didn’t anticipate Santam’s response, “but it’s nice to have fun with other brands”.

Cronje told Whitfield: “Our marketing department went to the Johannesburg Children’s Home today [Tuesday] and we are going to give them a meal a month for a year.

“We’re also going to deliver tomorrow [on Wednesday].”
